It can be said that yerba mate is to South America what tea is to China. It is the national drink of Argentina, Southern Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Also like tea, loyal mate lovers say it makes one feel clear thinking and alert but without the jitteriness of coffee (yes, yerba mate contains caffeine). In the streets of Brazil, it would be common instead of coffee or tea, to see mate enjoyed as a very social drink with young and old alike, sipping out of the traditional mate gourd (a drinking cup fashioned out of a gourd), with a bombilla (a straw-like tool).
Our toasted Brazilian Mate is roasted using 1st grade cut, certified organic leaf. The result is a pleasant medium-bodied roasted brew that is very reminiscent of roasted coffee. Toasted Mate may therefore be an excellent tea choice for those wanting to decrease their coffee consumption in exchange for a healthier herbal and without having to do without the caffeine – or maybe even just to switch things up at bit!
