Whisked matcha powder produces sultry sweet notes that arise within a deep, full flavored Japanese green tea! Matcha is powdered green tea that includes the whole leaf, ground into a very fine powder that resembles an emerald colored flour. Because the leaves themselves are consumed, brewed matcha contains higher concentrations of vitamins, antioxidants and caffeine than other teas. Matcha comes in several grades, this one being among the highest from the Uji region of Japan.
beTeas is proud to offer this exceptional farm-direct ceremonial grade matcha, sourced by our partner, Momo Tea of Toronto. Usucha (thin tea) is a version of Matcha used in Japanese tea ceremony; the other version being Koicha (thick tea). With Usucha it is essentially normal to use more water than with Koicha.   Momo uses fresh young Tencha leaves, ground by hand in Uji, Kyoto.  This exceptional Matcha is highly recommended and acceptable for traditional Japanese tea ceremony (or your personal, informal yet incredible matcha moment!).
After whisking well with a bamboo whisk, Usucha shows bright frothy green foam with a creamy beautiful light green color. Momo Usucha has distinctively sweet, rich and creamy texture with “umami” which is the “yummy” or “brothy” taste sensation.
Matcha is produced using leaves that have been shaded the final weeks before plucking in order to boost chlorophyll production in the tea plant, lending it a more vibrant green colour once harvested. The leaves go through several stages of production. In the final stage, ‘Tencha’ leaf is stone ground into a finely powdered form, producing the silky smooth powder that can be whisked into a vibrant emerald green cup of goodness!
